Children learn best through multi-sensory experiences and when tasks are introduced in a fun and age-appropriate way.
This resource was developed by an occupational therapist and aims to develop letter sound/ recognition, letter formation, word building, and visual and auditory skills in an age-appropriate and creative manner.
This tool includes the following:
- 20 x 3 letter words (build the word with playdough). Print in color to laminate for repeated use.
- 36 x Write and Wipe 3 letter word activities. Print in color to laminate.
- 20 Word Building Activities.

Why are these specific activities represented combined?
When we build the words with play dough, finger muscles are strengthened to support pencil grip development and handwriting. Tracking ("Write and Wipe") of 3-letter words supports letter formation, analysis, and synthesis of visual information.
Additional activities, which include reading and independent writing of words, for consolidation of skills are also included in this resource. Worksheets with coloring pictures and 3-letter words can be used as homework or for revision in the classroom.
This tool is ideal for strong Grade R learners who master their sounds well and are ready for the new challenge, as well as Grade 1 or older children who need additional help and remediation.
